In the Honest Ulsterman today

‘Puberty’ is out in the @HonestUlsterman today, Northern Ireland’s leading literary mag. Culture permeates how we navigate this world, right from the time we are learning to grow out of the proverbial womb. When we seek freedom, can we really believe in it to keep us safe and unharmed? Can safety keep us free from patriarchy? Where can women turn to, when home becomes a prison and the world out there is swarming with predators? I ask because societies are slow to respond to economic changes, and in the case of India, Bharat, an aphorism for rural India where the majority of us live, and India, the populace in India’s metropolitan cities, are two worlds constantly clashing – we see this in the way women are treated within homes and outside of it.
